Anishinabe Legal Services - Cass Lake Office LSC Funded

Who We Are

Anishinabe Legal Services is a 501 c (3) corporation that was established in 1967. Our primary mission is to provide free civil legal services to the residents on or near Leech Lake, Red Lake, and White Earth reservations. We have three offices which are centrally located in their respective communities. Specifically our services concentrate on preventing domestic violence and keeping families together, however we also target issues that are unique to Native American people including jurisdiction, Trust land heirship, forfeitures, and other Indian Law issues.

Additional services are available through the Crime Victims Legal Services Program to individuals who reside on or near the White Earth, Red Lake, and Leech Lake reservations, and who have civil legal needs as the result of being a victim of a crime. Any crime qualifies for help through this project. Examples of such crimes are assault, domestic abuse or violence, burglary, identity theft, and so on. The crime does not have to be reported to the police. The program attorney will provide help on many civil legal issues. Examples of legal needs are Orders for Protection, custody, clearing one’s credit history, restitution and/or reparations, privacy rights of victims of a crime, and so on. There are no income or asset limits for clients seeking assistance under this program. The program may provide advice, brief service such as help with legal forms, or full representation to clients.
