Tubman Pro Bono Family Law Program

Tubman's pro bono Family Law program provides full representation to eligible clients with cases venued in Hennepin, Ramsey, or Washington Counties. Representation is accomplished by both Tubman staff attorneys and volunteer family law attorneys.

Clients are potentially eligible if they fall under 125% of the federal poverty guidelines and have a compelling need for representation. Priority is given to clients who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Pro bono representation is offered for divorce, custody, and parenting time cases only. For child or spousal support assistance, please refer to our Self-Represented Legal Clinic program.

Application Process

Clients call Tubman's Resource Line at 612-870-2400, where basic screening is completed for income, assets, venue, and case type.

Clients are then registered for an intake screening appointment with legal staff. Appointments are done over the phone for English-speakers and in-person at our South Minneapolis location for non-English speakers. Interpreters are available upon request.

Direct referrals from other legal services agencies can be completed by emailing familylaw@tubman.org or calling us at 612-870-2435. Please include any screening or intake already completed by the referring agency and any applicable court documents.
