SMRLS - Agricultural Worker Program

The AWP provides free legal advice, brief services, and full representation in civil legal cases to low-income agricultural workers from all counties in Minnesota and North Dakota.  Examples of agricultural work include:

  • Field work
  • Nursery work
  • Cannery work
  • Greenhouse work
  • Livestock work
  • Forestry work
  • Beekeeping
  • Work under an H-2A visa

The cases that we normally take include:

  • Wage theft
  • Unsafe working conditions
  • Problems with employer-provided housing
  • Employment discrimination/retaliation
  • Violations of migrant & H-2A contracts
  • Problems with farm laborer contractors
  • Issues with recruitment
  • Labor trafficking (T visas)
  • Expedited food stamp problems
  • Unemployment insurance denials
  • Renewal of green cards
